One down, Two to go!

Yeah, that’s right. I have finished my first year of university. Although I am still waiting on marks for assignments, exams and overall subjects my outlook is bright. I have been getting reasonable grades this semester.

The first year at uni has given me a bright outlook to the future of my career. With all the information and knowledge I have assimilated within the last 12 months of study I have a feeling that getting into the industry and making my mark on the universe won’t be too hard after all.

The subjects which I completed this semester were much more interesting than last, because we were able to pick 3 of the 4. Elective subjects are the best because they focus almost entirely on what you want to learn, and not so much on what you should know. Wanting to learn helps the process to no end.

My favourite subject was definitely Enabling Immersion due to the content we were taught. Every lecture was like a look into gaming history and future, with a crazy lecturer making the one hour a week even more interesting. The tutorials were also fun, not because of the Unreal Tournament 2004 death matches which were held ritually before they started, but because what we learned how to make a story, how to make a plot, and how to put that into a game.

Our assessments were very interesting. The first milestone asked us to create some rooms within a Multi User Dungeon and link them to a website both physically and contextually. I received a high mark for this due to my website, which played off of the Multi User Dungeon interface. Secondly we were asked to produce a 2000 word (or equivalent) piece of writing (or anything else really) to which I wrote a story.

Over all, this year has been great fun, and I am looking forward to next year. But until then I plan on working on my portfolio website, so please stay tuned as I start moving things around.
